News from Casablanca, Morocco – On April 22 local time, the track laying of Lot 2 Track Renovation Project of Casablanca Railway Capacity Upgrade undertaken by the 8th Branch of China TIESIJU Civil Engineering Group officially kicked off.
Located in urban Casablanca, the project starts from Sidi El Bernoussi in the west and ends at Al Oasis in the east, with a route length of about 20.3 kilometers (parallel sections not counted repeatedly) arranged in three sections. The construction scope includes track demolition, turnout removal, laying of new seamless tracks and new turnouts. The core engineering quantities involve the demolition of 51.4 kilometers of tracks and 151 sets of turnouts, as well as the laying of 84 kilometers of new seamless tracks and 124 sets of new turnouts. Upon completion, the project will further improve the intercity transportation network, boost regional railway transportation efficiency, and provide convenient transportation support for Morocco to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Since the commencement of construction in February 2025, the 8th Branch has set up a professional overseas team and strictly abided by international construction standards and local Moroccan codes. It has completed preliminary work including partial track demolition, control point surveying and storage of employer-supplied materials, laying a solid foundation for the smooth start of track laying.
